ODP Adventures - Palazzo Avino, Ravello, Amalfi Coast

For Italian Summers, no destination is more iconic than the Amalfi Coast. This year, we are so proud to add The Pink Closet, a new boutique located inside the beautiful Palazzo Avino Hotel, among our stockists. Recently confirmed as one of the Top 100 Hotels in the World, this 5-star hotel is housed in a historical building perched upon the hills overlooking the quaint town of Ravello, known in the past for being the idyllic escape for many artists. Indeed, every year a summer music Festival takes place in Ravello, offering a combination of traditional orchestral music together with new contemporary music in open-air venues above the Mediterranean sea.

Palazzo Avino, also known as “The Pink Palace”, is centrally located in what was once a private villa of an Italian noble family, originally known as Palazzo Sasso. The XII century building was restored in the 1990s by the Avino family, and now almost all of its suites boast breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. This year, The Pink Closet opened its doors, designed by architect and interior designer Cristina Celestino, who has collaborated with many other notable fashion brands. The boutique offers a wide variety of international and niche brands, including a unique selection of Officina del Poggio bags made especially for the boutique.

Giving us a little insight on the the hotel, we are excited to introduce you to Mariella Avino, Managing Director of Palazzo Avino.

What is a detail or aspect that you find particularly special of Palazzo Avino, or something as the Hotel Director you really try to focus on?

Experience is key. Every step we make and every decision we pursue we try to enhance our guest's stay by focusing on the territory, the beauty, and the authenticity of this unique location. But at the same time, The Pink Palace has to feel like a home away from home for our guests.

You have such a great signature style... what was your inspiration behind The Pink Closet?

Fashion has always been my hobby and love! I am passionate about it as much as the Hospitality industry. Dressing up is a fun game I take on everyday. I have been thinking of diving into this passion for years and opening a boutique for the property... and finally last year this dream came true! The Pink Closet has been my research and creative laboratory. The project had two special souls, one related to the buying and one related to creating the most special space. For months I searched for niche brands, finding unknown special brands in my travels, and taking notes of all the special pieces I found. It is a constant and on-going project. Some of my favorite new brands are Mantero, Attico, Oserèe, Leontine Vintage, Bluetiful... and ODP of course! The space is also designed by the architect Cristina Celestino, who truly created the “closet” of my dreams!

For someone visiting for the first time, what are the special places you would suggest for a perfect day ?

The hidden gem for me is solarium on the fourth floor of the property. It is the highest point of the Hotel with amazing views over the Coast. I also love our special Clubhouse by the sea, with exclusive access to the water only for the Hotel guests. For a special gastronomical experience, we are proud to host guests at our Michelin-starred restaurant, Rossellinis.

Living in such a beautiful town, it might seem that you are always on vacation, but what other destination would you choose for an ideal escape?

Unfortunately that is hardly the case, as I am always working and never get to go to the beach… evident in my very pale skin. I travel during the winter months, mostly for work, but after Christmas I usually take a vacation with my husband and we always try to pick a special destination. So far my most epic trip has been India! I loved every part of it and each city has its own unique flair. But I would say the place that is truly the only of its kind in the entire world is the Lake Palace of Udaipur, and of course visiting the Taj Mahal was a completely moving experience. I am counting down the days to go back!
