A letter from the founder

How is it possible that it is already September? I hope you had a fabulous summer! I just returned from an incredible trip to Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota, where I was able to combine a little family time with discovering breathtaking landscapes.

This trip was the perfect time to test out the new ODP Bottle Bag, part of our #StepsTowardSustainability Collection with Arizona Muse. I must say: it is the best bag we have ever created! I say “we” because this was definitely a group effort: Arizona inspired and encouraged me to design something to promote the use of re-usable bottles, our marketing manager Chiara suggested adding the genius key clip, and our amazing patternmaker Elisa found the way to make the front pocket large enough for a phone but still keeping the construction streamlined and simple. Great teamwork, ladies!

While visiting the National Parks and Forests, I was impressed by the increased attention paid to the reduction of plastic and waste. Easy-to-use recycle bins were abundant, with my favorite part being that regular trash bins were labeled as “Landfill”, forcing one to consciously reflect on where that unsorted trash was going, and many cities have banned the use of single-use plastic bags. Bravo!

I also appreciated the convenient filtered water refill stations popping up throughout public rest-stops, hotels, and airports. Now armed with my new Bottle Bag, these made it easy to refill and avoid purchasing plastic bottles (and also fill up on my morning coffee… did you know that the 24Bottles Clima bottle included with the Bottle Bag also insulates hot beverages?).

Each time I refilled, I was shocked at the numbers on the electronic counters. Just one station alone reached over a million refills! Being somewhat of a numbers nerd, which I thank my father for, I mentally tallied up my personal refills: in one week I avoided purchasing or using 8 plastic bottles, including those which were offered free in hotel rooms. So 8 bottles a week… that would be 416 bottles a year, and over 2000 bottles in five years! This gave me the idea of the #ODPBottleBagChallenge:

To participate, I invite you to:

  • Purchase your favorite ODP Bottle Bag

  • Count the number of plastic bottles purchased/avoided each week by refilling the bottle

  • Share a picture to Social Media and tag @odp_collection and #ODPBottleBagChallenge (or if you prefer not to publish it, just share the numbers via email).

We will keep track of the overall numbers on our website and social media throughout September, along with other interesting facts and statistics. We want to help people realize that it is not just that one plastic bottle, but that one bottle saved, multiplied over time and users, makes a huge impact!

And a little more “number nerd” food for thought: If you avoid purchasing at least 6 bottles of water a week, the entire cost of the ODP Bottle Bag will pay for itself in one year… and with the added bonus using the 15% “NEWSLETTER” discount code, you even save money! Don’t you just love math? :)

We are also offering FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING throughout the entire month on ALL PURCHASES. Happy September!
